Sports Physiotherapy

Sports Physiotherapy at Advantage Healthcare

Advantage Healthcare has many experienced physiotherapists who have treated many sportspeople, from the weekend warrior though to the high level athlete.

Our Physiotherapists utilise their assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills from physiotherapy and apply them to the requirements of the athletes chosen sport, activity or game. They use evidence based practice to ensure a quick and optimal recovery.

Our therapists can treat both acute injuries such as ligament sprains, muscular strains or tears through to annoying chronic injuries such as tendinoapthies and other overuse injuries.

Sports Injuries & Treatment

Appropriate diagnosis and early stage treatment is vital to aid in the recovery from injuries. An accurate early stage diagnosis can ensure you do the right things when you are injured. Often we get asked by a patient if they should use ice or heat for an injury, whether they need a scan, x-ray or MRI. Other times we get asked if they should be resting of to keep moving the injured part.

More serious injuries that are suspected to be a fracture or high grade sprain/tear may require scans or referrals. These may benefit from immediate immobilisations, however light sprains that are immobilised for too long, could end up taking longer to heal.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation in the sports physiotherapy field varies from traditional physio based on the mechanisms of injury, timeframes or requirements of the athlete and the level to which they need to be rehabilitated to return to the level of play they were at before the injury.

Sports physiotherapy may incorporate tradational treatments such as mobilisations, strengthening and home exercises. However it will also look at your training program and sugest modifications so that you can continue to train at some level and focus on helping your issues.

Strength and Conditioning

A vital part of your rehabilitation is to build up your conditioning to the level that is required of your sport. If you are returning to the rugby field after a knee injury you need to not only that the strength in your knee to keep your stable, but you need the confidence in your knee so that you can sprint, cut, turn and tackle without worrying about the risk of reinjury. Our Wynnum physiotherapists will ensure you have confidence to return to play.
